Immunity : 8 signs to indicate that your immunity is intact 🙌

Hello everone ! Have a wonderful and great day 🙋🏻

1.You have a bodyweight within the range of average weight, according to the height and not being overweight.
2.You have a routine, regular bowel habit.
3.You have clean and clear skin.
4.You get up fresh and remain energetic. There is an absence of laziness.
5.Experiencing a sense of hunger once or twice a day.
6.You don’t have general body ache except with injury or heavy exercise.
7. You experience a sense of wellbeing and generate positive thoughts.
8. You experience deep sleep at night.

These are general signs that indicate that your body is functioning optimally and your immunity is intact. Our body’s immunity and vitality is not acquired by having a glass of smoothy, or daily going to the gym and having a load of supplements. It is the result of what you eat, how you think and how you live.

Three simple ways to build up a strong immunity is:

1.Fasting: Fasting is the simplest and easiest way of building your immunity. Ideally,15 to 16 hours of fasting every day are good enough. It is also the easiest way of losing weight. Having everyday dinner at around 6-7 PM, and not having any meal or snacks in between except water. Then, followed by having breakfast, the next morning around 10 to 11 AM gives you fasting of at least 16 hours quickly.

2. Food: Having food which is as much as close to Mother Nature. Fruits and vegetables, in their natural form or cooking minimum to restore their nutritional value. Preferable having a one-grain meal a day like brown rice or whole wheat and having meals (1-2 times /per day) with enriched portions of fibres, healthy saturated fat, protein and carbohydrate. It is necessary for avoiding processed, refined food altogether. Limiting the intake of beverages, alcohol and having more water, instead is ideal.

3. Mind and body care: Exercising every day is a must. Instead of heavy workouts in the gym, simple exercises like walking in nature, running, jogging are ideal. Physical activity throughout the day is good enough to give you a good night sleep. It is essential to maintain a positive attitude and a calm mind, to keep stress at bay. So, meditation, yoga, mindfulness practices, spiritual practices helps to build a positive and healthy mind.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome 😔

Hello everyone! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: It is a disorder, relatively unknown to the public and even to the medical fraternity. It is a progressive, multi-system functional disorder involving the Neurological, Immune, Endocrine and digestive systems. As more and more cases are emerging, the diagnosis has now been established. This condition is also known as Myalgia Encephalomyelitis or systemic exertion intolerance disease (SEID). The syndrome slowly progresses to functional impairment. It can affect any age group, even in children. But mostly, common in women, more than men in the age group of 40-60 years.

Symptoms: Different individual is affected with different range of severity.
1.Extreme fatigue even after long hours of rest.
2.Progressive loss of stamina, both physically and mentally.
3.Loss of concentration
4.Loss of memory
5.Headache
6.Sensitivity to food, odours, chemicals
7.Unexplained joint pain.
8.Sleep disorders
9.Enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or the armpits.

Causes: The exact cause is yet unknown. But, in more and more case studies, certain contributing factors are being identified:

1.Viral infections: Like Rubella, Epstein Barr, Human herpes, Ross River viral infection can precipitate such a condition.
2.Bacterial infection like Chlamydia Pneumonia
3.Genetic Predisposition
4.Mental issues like childhood trauma, emotional trauma, stress
5.Hormonal imbalance.

Diagnosis: The diagnosis is difficult to confirm as the condition has symptoms similar to many other conditions. To make a diagnosis, doctors mainly rely on a thorough medical history, and different tests are being done to rule out other conditions. Some individual with this condition has been found to have an inadequate response to immune cells like T cells and have autoantibodies in the blood. Tests like laboratory tests, exercise tests, sleep study are done to exclude other conditions.

Management: There is as such no cure. The aim of managing such cases is to relief the individual from the symptoms.

1. Eliminate food sensitivity like common allergens nuts (peanuts, tree nuts), shellfish, gluten (wheat, rye, barley), dairy. Avoiding such food may sometimes work towards improving the symptoms.

2. Exercise and Yoga is recommended to improve physical mobility.
3. Mindfulness session to improve sleep issue.
4. Acupuncture to improve pain.

5. Improve diet and Supplementation with vitamin B complex, potassium, magnesium.

6. Bone Broth as a collagen booster

7. Meditation, nature walk to improve mental health, reduce stress and peace of mind.
8.Social support: Support from loved ones and friends is vital.

Overthinking: 10 ways to stop 🙌

Hello everyone ! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

Thinking is what makes us the most intelligent species on this planet. It is this thinking what drives us to learn, study, analyze. Thinking makes us competent and innovative and help us to perform a task or job. But, when thinking becomes out of control, nagging and overtime, then, we start creating problems for us. As a habit, overthinking is not uncommon. We all may have it to some degree, more or less. Some realize it and correct it while others may be so drawn to it, which may lead to toxic consequences like anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies and insomnia.

Ten simple ways to stop overthinking on a day to day basis:

1.Awareness: Before you can change the habit or develop a strategy, it is essential first to be aware of this habit of your mind. Whenever a thought lingers you, there is also some emotion attached to the thought. You start imagining worst possible scenario because the mind tends to think about the negative first. Maybe, this is from the time of evolution of our species, to foresee a potential danger first. So, imagination causes the mind to be strained and anxious. An anxious mind keeps brooding again and again. So, being aware of this state of mind is a fundamental key to change.

2.Reshaping your thought process: Instead of avoiding the thought or running away from it, start to reshape your thinking to a positive one. Instead of imagining the worst scenario, imagine the best scene. Instead of brooding onto the fear, create a strategy and achievable goals.

3.Change your Perspective: This is important because overthinking is ground to fear of losing or failure. So, instead of thinking on the negative terms, start thinking on the time frame—prioritize the perspective. Whether the thought or emotion do hold any value in your future, maybe five years from now or perhaps just next month.

4.Distracting the mind constructively: Many people tend to overthink when they are alone or lonely. So, it is essential to do things or develop hobbies to keep your mind occupied and let out the emotions like painting, dancing, photography, gardening, playing an instrument or even jolting down the thoughts.

5.Perfection: Aiming to be perfect is just not done. This will lead to unnecessary anxiety or stress. Instead, focussing on your progress and growing day by day is the more practical approach.

6.Overcome fear: Fear comes with failure in the past or with a bad experience in the past. But, having a past loss, doesn’t mean you will have the same outcome every time.
7.Realize the truth: The truth is that we cannot predict the future. Future is associated with an element of uncertainty. So, instead of thinking and worrying about the end, it is wiser to focus on the present moment. Focus on all the positive aspects of your life, which makes you joy and cheerful.

8.Accept your worthiness: Overthinking is usually associated with fear of failure, that you are not good enough, not worthy of success. Keep yourself reminding that you are good enough; you are capable enough to accomplish all your goals.
9.Be grateful: Living in gratitude is the most important view in life. We should never forget to be thankful for the life we lead, being able to breathe and for the things and loved ones we have around.

10 Last but not least, the physical body affects the mind and vice versa. So, regular exercise, meditation, walking in nature all help profoundly to keep a healthy mind with a healthy body.

All about Serotonin 😇

Hello everyone ! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

Seratonin is a neurotransmitter, secreted in the gut and the brain. It plays a massive role in our state of wellbeing. It is responsible for giving us a feeling of a happy state of mind, a sense of satisfaction, relief from pain and control our impulses. It helps to co-ordinate the autonomic, motor, cognitive functions, appetite, emotions and feelings. It also controls our circadian rythm, which is the awake sleep cycle as a precursor of melatonin.

Seratonin cycle:
Tryptophan — 5 Hydroxytryphtophan —-Serotonin—- N -Acetylserotonin—Melatonin

When serotonin is low, it may give rise to several problems in our overall wellbeing. Before diving into the symptoms, it is essential to know what causes to reduce the level of serotonin in the body:

Causes of Low Serotonin :
1.Sedentary Lifestyle
2.Inadequate sleep.
3.Chronic Brain inflammation
4.Leaky gut syndrome
5.Poor blood sugar control
6.Magnesium deficiency
7.Omega 3 fatty acid deficiency.
8.Vitamin deficiency, namely Vitamin D, B1, B2, B6 and folate.

The different symptoms when the serotonin level is low:
1.Anxiety and Panic attacks
2.Social phobia
3.Mood swings
4.Depression
5.Low self-esteem
6.Overtly sensitive, having a sense of guilt, regrets
7.Trouble sleeping
8.Obsessive behaviour like controlling, impulsive, neat freak.

The serotonin level can be measured by Urine biomarker test (Organic Acid test).

The natural ways to improve the level of serotonin are:

1. Reducing the intake of carbohydrate, especially with a high glycaemic index like sugar, processed food. Also, switching the diet to a moderate amount of carbohydrate with a low glycaemic index like brown rice, whole grains.
2.Exercise increases the tryptophan level and balances the serotonin and dopamine balance.
3. Get better quality of sleep every day by following a routine. Make sure to get up and sleep at the same time daily to keep the awake sleep cycle intact.

4.Exposure to sunlight so the UV light absorbed in the skin can simulate Vitamin D production, which in turn stimulates serotonin production. That is why, in winters, many people suffer from depression and mood swings due to lack of exposure to sunlight.
5.Meditation helps to maintain the serotonin dopamine balance and the calmness of mind.
6.Getting a cold shower of 2-3 minutes will also stimulate the serotonin receptors. So, after a cold shower, people tend to feel relaxed.
7.Getting a body massage also helps to stimulate serotonin receptors.

8. Seratonin boosting foods: Wild-caught fatty fishes, green tea, turmeric, fermented foods, nuts, seeds, low glycaemic fruits and veggies, dark chocolate.

8 Benefits of Nose Breathing 👃

Hello everyone ! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

Anatomically, the nose is an organ in the human body, specially designed for breathing. When we are born, we, only breath through our nose for several months until our respiratory tract is fully developed. Then, we, also breath through our mouth as when required in certain situations maybe during nasal blockage or in an anxious state or when in air hunger after a massive task. But, fundamentally, we are designed to breathe only through our nose, which is not just necessary but also very beneficial.

The importance of nasal breathing are :

1.Filtration: Nasal breathing causes the air to filter through the nasal passage by the cilia and mucus present so that the purified air goes to the lungs. The air gets filtered from the harmful air bourne particles and potential dangers of virus and bacteria before reaching the lungs.
2.Regulates the temperature of air: Nasal breathing can also regulate the air temperature, we breathe in before reaching the lungs. As soon as we breathe, if the air is cold, it gets warmed up before reaching the lungs. And the opposite can occur, we live in a hot climate.
3.Conditioning: Nasal breathing causes the air to humidify in the nasal cavity so that the inhaled air becomes moist and humid. And the oxygen can be easily absorbed by the tissues after reaching the lungs. The air gets conditioned with negative ions so that they can get attached to positively charged ion particles, neutralizes free radicals, enhance the immune system and balance the autonomic nervous system.
4.Reduces stress: Nasal breathing is deep and relaxing as it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and relaxes the muscles of the diaphragm and belly.
5. Efficient oxygen use: Nasal breathing optimizes the oxygen uptake by the lung tissues during inhalation as the breathing is deep and relaxing and expels the carbon dioxide during the exhalation. The ratio and balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide are efficiently maintained.
6. Probiotics: Our nose is a host of probiotic colonies which usually attack the invading bacteria, viruses and fungi before they can enter the rest of the respiratory passage and lungs.
7.Nitric Oxide: When we breathe through the nose, it creates Nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a natural vasodilator. So, when present in the inhaled air, Nitric oxide reaches the body tissues causes increase blood flow to the organs and lower the blood pressure.
8.Promotes oral hygiene: Nasal breathing does not interfere with the normal functioning of the oral cavity. When there is mouth breathing, the mouth gets dried up from the saliva which otherwise cleans up the oral cavity by washing away from bacteria, oral microbiome, maintain the hygiene of the teeth and gums. So, individual breathing through mouth suffers from dental issues and halitosis (bad breath).

So the benefits are tremendous with Nose breathing. Mouth breathing is devoid of these fantastic benefits as it is primarily not designed for breathing.

After a heavy workout or during running, or while sleeping like in Sleep apnoea, the body tries to compensate with mouth breathing to let out the excess blood carbon dioxide level which has gone up. Mouth breathing is shallow and fast, which stimulate the sympathetic system and causes more stress. Mouth breathing causes snoring while sleeping, so some people are advised clinically to use mouth tape to avoid it.

There are different techniques and exercises about how to clear out our nasal passage and facilitate this standard mechanism of nasal breathing. Some popular methods are the Buteyko method and the Yogic breathing, which is alternate nostril breathing or Pranayama.

Autophagy: What is it, and how to induce it?🙌

Hello everyone! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

img_0867

The term “autophagy” means eating thyself where “auto” is self, and “phage” is eating. The name has been there in medicine since the 19th century. But the term became quite popular among the medical community in around 2016 when Japanese researcher Dr Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize.

Physiologically, the term means that the body has a natural capacity to eat and clean out the debris, junk and all the unnecessary components in the cells and recycle them as newer and healthier ones for smooth functioning. It’s a form of self-preservation process that the body has an innate capacity. In this way, the toxic, inflamed cells in the body which are responsible for chronic diseases are to be recycled and self preserved to healthier cells. The ageing process slows down, the body weight can be maintained. The process is possible in case of all cells in the body, including brain cells, heart, liver, lung, kidneys and all.

img_0868

This is a natural phenomenon, which the body is capable of undergoing. But due to various factors, this bodily process isn’t so effective as it should be. The reasons are manifold like for the continuous binging of food, adopting an unhealthy lifestyle and choosing the wrong food items (high calories) to eat and so on. So, in many individuals, the process either slows down or work at a very minimal level. Therefore, there are vast dumping of debris and toxins in the cells leading to various chronic conditions like obesity, diabetes and cancers. Autophagy has received much public attention these days for its capacity to prevent diseases like cancers. But, more studies are required in this area.

img_0869

In an individual with a high carbohydrate intake of calories 300 to 500 calories/day, the process remains less effective. So, people are mainly adopting the Keto diet and lifestyle. Consuming food with healthy fats and a minimum level of carbs with increasing physical activities and short intervals of fasting induces ketosis in the body. Ketosis causes the body to use the fat reservoir for energy sources instead of carbohydrate as there is a minimum intake of sugar. Usually, the keto diet can be useful in weight loss and fat reduction, or muscle building process. Staying in ketosis can ignite the process of autophagy faster in a short interval of 12 hours.

Specific ways to ignite the process of autophagy are:

img_0874

1.Sleep: Adequate quantity of sleep daily of at least 8 hours a day is beneficial. But more than the number, the adequate quality of sleep matters. Sleep accentuates the lymphatic flow between the neurons and fastens the cleaning process of neuronal debris and plaques. So, every day you get up with a clean brain, not only helps in smooth cognitive functioning but also fewer chances of ageing disease like dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Sleep not only promotes autophagy in the brain but also in all somatic cells, thereby cleaning toxins and debris throughout.

img_0870
2. Adopting a ketogenic diet: Not changing the diet regime drastically from high carb to low carb and high fat. Because, it may cause severe outcomes like low blood sugar, electrolyte imbalance and fatigue. Instead, keeping in mind, the body’s tolerance level, slowly making changes by lowering the intake of carbs in the diet up to 50 calories/day. Incorporating more healthy fats in the diet of 80% of the entire daily intake of at least 2000 calories/day can give good results in the body. The body slowly ignites the natural process of autophagy faster, which takes a long time with a carbohydrate-rich diet. img_0871
3.Intermittent fasting: This is itself a vast topic to discuss. It means that scheduling the meal timings in a day in between fasting intervals. The fasting period can be 8-10 hours to 14 -16 hours a day. There are some extreme methods of fasting, necessary for specific parameters to target. But for regular individuals like you and me, an early dinner or sometimes skipping a meal or fasting, a single day can be constructive. Early dinner can give us fasting of at least 10 hours every day. If you want, you can get more information on intermittent fasting : Click the link

Walking: 20 health benefits.

Hello everyone! Have a wonderful and safe day 🙋🏻

Why did I feel writing something about walking? Firstly, I believe in this form of fitness, and secondly, off course, for its incredible health benefits. Without stepping inside the gym, the concept of exercise and physical fitness in today’s time doesn’t seem to work. Either you are running the treadmill or using high-end gym apparatus to strengthen and shape your muscles. Unless you do such exercises, you feel you are not doing the right kind of exercise regime for your fitness. Such psychology commonly revolves around us.

Therefore, walking has been most underrated as an exercise form for fitness. Enough studies have been done in the past, which goes to show that walking can be an effective form of a workout as exercise. A simple walk around nature gives you enough mental and physical boost and can be helpful to reduce the anxiety and stress in our everyday life. A good 20- 30 mins of a walk at a moderate pace every day is enough to give you the immense health benefits, your desired fitness level and reach your weight loss targets. Though running utilizes a more exaggerated level of energy, more pressure on the muscles but walking at a medium pace for a longer duration can give you the same desired results. Health markers have effectively shown the fitness and endurance level that can be attained by an everyday walk.

20 such amazing health benefits:
